Expert Advice: Dry Skin Solution
Share
Do you have dry, flaky skin? Are you trying everything you can to relieve your parched skin without relief?
Big Beauty has conditioned us to believe many things about what our personal care routine should look and feel like. But, you don’t have to let them define that for you. The message being delivered is that super-clean skin equals healthy skin. Unfortunately, having squeaky-clean skin is actually “over-cleansing” and is perpetuating the problem. In order to stop the insanity, we need to change our minds about what clean skin means.
Our first step is to understand how our skin works. The very top layer of our skin and barrier to the outside world is the Statum Corneum. This barrier is covered by the Acid Mantle which is a slick film made up of sweat, oil or sebum and good bacteria. The acid mantle plays an important part in keeping our skin balanced and healthy.
Harsh products containing solvents, alcohol, benzoyl peroxide and detergents, strip the skin of its natural oil, remove the good bacterial and disrupt its pH level. This over-cleansing leaves our skin vulnerable to infection and keeps the skin in a continual dry state therefore contributing to chronic dryness
So, here's the one hundred thousand dollar question: How do we get clean while making sure we aren’t stripping our skin of it’s natural oils? The key is to support the skin’s natural function. Our bodies are intuitively made and working with its innate design will allow it to thrive. The ideal cleanser will remove dirt and debris without completely stripping the skin, meanwhile, delivering nutrients to support and nourish it. Product selection is key.
Thankfully, we’ve done the homework for you. All of our soaps and cleansers are made without the use of harsh chemicals.
If you are looking to make the change to natural products, hopefully I’ve given you some reasons to change your thinking around society’s conventions.
